Privacy
What this site does with your data.
Short version: this is a static website. It sets no cookies unless you accept analytics, it has no login, and it never sells anything about you.
Cookies
Nothing is stored on your device until you choose it.
We use no advertising cookies, no tracking pixels, and no cross-site profiling. There is no cookie that is required for the site to work, because there is nothing here to log into.
If you accept analytics, Google Analytics sets its own cookies in order to tell a returning visit from a new one. If you decline, or if you never answer, no analytics cookie is set and no Google script is loaded at all.
Your answer itself is remembered in your browser's local storage, under rmeta-analytics-consent, so that we do not ask again on every page. That entry stays on your device and is never sent anywhere.
Analytics
If, and only if, you accept, we use Google Analytics 4 to understand which parts of this site people actually read.

What it collects
Pages viewed, roughly how long for, the sort of device and browser you are using, an approximate location derived from your IP address, and whether you arrived from a search engine, a link, or directly.

What it does not collect
Your name, your email address, or anything you type. We do not send Google any information that identifies you, we do not use Google Signals, and we do not use any of this for advertising.

How we use it
To decide what to write more of and what to cut, and to know whether people are finding the agenda, the location details, and the registration link. That is the whole purpose.

Where it goes
To Google, who process it on our behalf and retain it under their own terms. Their handling is described in Google's privacy policy.
Anything you send us.
Two things on this site take information from you, and neither of them works the way people usually assume.

The contact form
The form on the contact page does not submit anything to a server. It composes a message in your own email application, which you then send yourself. Nothing leaves your device unless you press send, and we receive it as an ordinary email at deming@colorado.edu.

Registration
Registration is not handled here. The register links take you to Blackthorn, the platform CU Boulder uses for events, and anything you enter there is covered by their terms and CU's, not by this page.

Links out
This site links to universities, the Denver ETA Meetup, Google Maps, and other organisations. Once you follow a link you are on their site under their policies, and we have no control over what they collect.
Changing your mind.
You can withdraw consent at any time, and it takes effect immediately.
Use the cookie settings link in the footer of any page, or the link in the cookies section above. Declining stops analytics from recording anything further.
Clearing cookies for this site in your browser settings removes any Google Analytics cookie already stored. Clearing site data also removes our record of your answer, so you will be asked again on your next visit.
If you would rather block Google Analytics everywhere rather than just here, Google publishes a browser add-on that does exactly that.
